Since I launched my Ireland Astrophotography Workshop, I’ve been able to combine my love of photography, night time and teaching others the techniques of capturing those star-filled views.
When I originally started out with my photography journey, it was the night sky that inspired me so much. There is just something about being out in the absolute darkness of the night, the solitude, and being able to create dreamy like images. It’s completely different than the normal images and thanks to modern cameras and lens’ these type of images are never far away from one’s reach.
We’ll start off the night by meeting in the car park at The Causeway Hotel, from there we’ll head to the Parlour Room inside The Causeway Hotel where we’ll be learning the fundamentals of astrophotography, how to focus in the dark, finding your composition, how to create star trails and how to shoot long exposures.
After about 1 hour we’ll then get wrapped up and make our way down to the Giants Causeway headland where we will put what we’ve just learnt into practice and we’ll be shooting the night sky. Not only will we be shooting wide field astrophotography, but we’ll also be shooting objects in the sky with the use of a tracker, so bring your longer lenses as well 😉
After a few hours of shooting the night sky, we’ll venture back up to The Causeway Hotel where we will be treated to tea, coffee and a selection of sandwiches. I will then show you how I go about editing my astrophotography images, making those images come to life. The post-processing session will be recorded on my computer and will be emailed to you the next day.
While no knowledge of night photography techniques is required for this workshop you must understand that this isn’t a beginners guide to using your DSLR. You should already have a decent working knowledge of your camera gear and how the exposure triangle works.
Each workshop is limited to only 5 participants so there will be plenty of 1-2-1 time for everyone.
