As much as I’m the biggest cold fan on the planet where I love both snow & ice, I’m just sitting here thinking about summer, t-shirt & shorts at night, noctilucent clouds (NLCs), all night photoshoots, BBQ’s & camping. Those long bright evenings, sunset, civil dusk, nautical dusk then you have astronomical dawn, nautical dawn, civil dawn and finally sunrise. All great times for some great light! It never gets too dark during the summer.
I remember last year heading out to do a moon timelapse, it was at that time of year where farmers had just cut their final hay & silage for the year. They where baling all night and there was square bales in loads of the fields.
I chose a particular field due to it not being blocked by any houses, or objects I didn’t want in the frame. I setup the camera, framed my shot, got the settings right, took a few test exposures and I was all good to go.
Camera clicking away I did some dandering about the field, paying interest to a digger which has been there for many many years and not moving, think on how this would be a great foreground for another timelapse I had thought of.
After a dander about looking at what I could see, I headed back to the hay bales where the camera was still clicking away. I made a giant chair from the bales and sat down, just chilling out, smoking fags, thinking about how awesome this timelapse would be if nothing goes wrong.
Out like a light, slept on those bales for about 2/3 hours and it was the most awesome sleep ever, being outside in nature, it wasn’t cold, it was about 15c if I remember right!
I just hope I have more of these moments this coming summer, I’m hopng we have a good summer all round and not a wash out like the previous years have been.
